(Fago, ND)-With the unveiling of two new hyperbaric oxygen chambers, Fargo Health Essentials Hospital is pleased to be the first local hospital to provide this type of treatment. Part of the funding for one of the chapters comes from the generous donations of the Dakota Medical Foundation and the Swanson Foundation, and it will use at least 50% of its operations for clinical research in the HBOT field. Essentia is collaborating with the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences on this research.
"We are very pleased to be the first to develop hospital hyperbaric oxygen medical services in the region, and provide this care in emergency, hospitalization and mobile settings," said Orainka, an expert in hyperbaric oxygen medicine at Essentia Health-Fargo, France. Dr. Olayinka Ajayi said.
Currently, Essential Health-Fargo uses HBOT to treat 14 diseases approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. These measures include promoting the healing of diabetic patients with foot wounds, thereby preventing amputation; treating tissue damage caused by radiotherapy; and reducing carbon monoxide poisoning damage to the heart and/or brain.
The treatment alone—or entering the cabin—usually lasts 1-2 hours. The amount of treatment depends on the nature of the disease being treated.
Essentia will work with UND to advance research around the benefits of HBOT. With the support of the Dakota Medical Foundation and the Swanson Foundation, these two foundations are committed to advancing health care in our region.
"We are very grateful for these generous gifts, which have brought a new and vital service to our community," said Susan Omdalen, executive director of the Essential Health Foundation-West. (Susan Omdalen) said. "This new HBOT, especially Doctor Ajayi, has had a huge impact on the care we provide to patients. Without the support of our community partners, we cannot provide this extended service."
