Motorcyclists challenge the difficulties and regain an adventurous lifestyle

54-year-old Kent Emory said: “Whenever I feel pain in my ankle, even a slight pain, it means I’m still alive and I’m very grateful.”“I’m riding a motorcycle along I-5, going home to celebrate my son’s birthday. I even have a backpack full of gifts,” Emery said.

It was June 12, 2018, and the weather was very hot. "I decided to take off my leather jacket. I knew it was against the rider's rules. I remember I was thinking, how much is there to go?"

After a while, the rear wheel of the Emory motorcycle locked up, and the motorcycle immediately slipped out of him. Only the helmet and gloves protected him, and Emery climbed over the handlebars. His bicycle caught fire after it slid 80 yards past him.

"I remember feeling my body rolling on the sidewalk, and the road under the helmet was moving fast-I was always conscious."When Emery finally stopped, he stood up instinctively. He fell to the ground quickly, and at that moment, he realized that his left ankle had been completely crushed.

Emery was lying on the ground in pain, his body was full of wounds, and all he thought of was his wife. The long-term effects of his injury were only thought of afterwards."Before hearing the news from the emergency personnel, I must let her know what happened and tell her that I'm okay."

After his wound treatment and ankle surgery, the surgeon told him that without a brace, he would never be able to walk anymore-he needs to be prepared to live a different life.

"I don't intend to accept that this is the end result," Emery said. "My life is very busy!" I am the father of seven children, entrepreneur, adventurer, love hiking, racing, flying airplanes, etc.-my mobility is everything. "Emery heard that oxygen therapy was a treatment method from his brother who was doing wound care at the Samaritan Hospital. Less than a week after the motorcycle accident, he started receiving hyperbaric oxygen treatment at the Samaritan Wound, Venous and Hyperbaric Oxygen Medical Center in Albany.

After 60 oxygen therapy sessions and countless hours of other physical rehabilitation activities, Emry also attributed his recovery to maintaining a positive attitude, doing what the medical team told him, and his wife's sympathy and diligent care throughout.

He started to do what he liked again-spending time with his family, running a business, and getting active.

"My life may be risky. Oxygen therapy helps me with my body today, but I am still alive and can continue to be like me without losing me before the accident," Emry said, reflecting on his daughter's wedding. Able to walk down.

Even now, three years after the accident, Emery is still challenging the strength of his ankle. "I started training with a Jiu-Jitsu coach, and when I really knew what I was doing during the game, one of my sons was surprised," Emery said.

Emery also rebuilt the motorcycle in the crash and once again enjoyed the fun of riding.

"I won't let it win!"
